Updated: Lagos Speaker speaks amidst resignation rumors

The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mojisola Meranda, has dismissed reports by Businessday claiming she has resigned from her position.
Meranda’s Chief Press Secretary, Segun Ajiboye, refuted the rumors on Wednesday, stating that she remains in office and continues her legislative duties.
“I’m in the office. The Speaker is in the office. I don’t know where that is coming from,” Ajiboye told PUNCH Online.
Discovererngr.com reports that speculation began after an online report surfaced on Wednesday, suggesting that Meranda had stepped down. A circular dated February 17, 2025, allegedly announcing her resignation, also gained traction on social media. However, checks revealed that the letter was unsigned, raising doubts about its authenticity.
The Lagos Assembly has been embroiled in a leadership crisis since the removal of former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa by a majority of lawmakers.
