Breaking: Tinubu establishes 2 fresh federal universities


President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has signed into law two bills establishing new federal universities in Osun and Ekiti states.
The Federal University of Agriculture and Development Studies will be located in Iragbiji, Osun State, while the Federal University of Technology and Environmental Sciences will be situated in Iyin Ekiti, Ekiti State.
According to a statement by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President (Information & Strategy), these specialized institutions are expected to address the educational needs of the populace, drive research and innovation, and contribute to the country’s economic growth and development.
The President noted that the institutions will serve as training grounds for developing agriculture, science, and technology professionals, enhancing Nigeria’s competitiveness in the global economy.
With these new additions, Nigeria now has a total of 63 approved federal universities, 63 state universities, and 149 private universities, according to the National Universities Commission (NUC).
