TCN announces 7-hour power outage in Abuja (see list of affected areas)

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a scheduled seven-hour power outage in parts of Abuja due to annual preventive maintenance on two transformers at the Apo 132/33kV Transmission Substation.
In a statement issued on Friday, February 21, 2025, by its General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, TCN confirmed that the maintenance exercise will take place on Saturday, February 22, and Sunday, February 23, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM each day.
The power outage will affect different areas on both days.
According to the statement, the maintenance work will be carried out on the 2x100MVA TR3 & TR4 transformers, making it impossible for the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) to receive bulk power supply during the process.
“As a result, power supply will be interrupted in the affected areas, but will be restored immediately after the maintenance exercise is completed,” the statement read.
Areas Affected:
Saturday, February 22, 2025: Power supply will be disrupted in National Hospital, G2 Injection Station, Garki, Area 1, and Asokoro.
Sunday, February 23, 2025: Areas such as Apo Legislative Quarters, Apo Resettlement, Gudu, and Apo Mechanic Village will experience similar outages.
TCN reassured residents that the maintenance is necessary to enhance the efficiency and reliability of the transmission infrastructure. Power will be restored immediately after the maintenance is completed.
