Like Natasha, INEC receives petition to recall another federal lawmaker

Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has received a petition calling for the recall of Martins Oke, the lawmaker representing Igbo-Etiti/Uzo-Uwani Federal Constituency in Enugu State.
Oke, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is accused by his constituents of failing to meet their expectations during his time in office.
The petition, dated March 27, 2025, was signed by Ugwuagbo Emmanuel Chizoba, Clinton Ogbonna, Sabinus Amah, and Stephen Okenwa.
It was submitted directly to INEC’s Chairman, requesting Oke’s removal due to what the signatories described as non-performance.
This petition has emerged at a time when a similar recall effort is being carried out against Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, a senator representing Kogi Central.
INEC formally notified Akpoti-Uduaghan of her recall process on Wednesday.
The growing dissatisfaction with lawmakers is sparking debates on the effectiveness of elected representatives and accountability in the legislative arm of government.
