More trouble for PDP as top party official resigns

Margaret Okon, the Assistant State Women Leader of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Cross River South, has officially resigned from the party, marking another high-profile exit within days.

Her resignation comes just 48 hours after Emana Amawhe, the PDP’s deputy governorship candidate in the 2024 elections, also announced her departure from the party.

In a letter addressed to the PDP chairman in her local ward in Akpabuyo Local Government Area, Okon expressed gratitude for the opportunities she received while serving in different capacities.

She recalled her political journey within the PDP, starting as a ward executive member, later becoming a councillor, and most recently holding the position of Assistant State Women Leader for the South.

“I am grateful for the trust and support I received throughout my journey in the PDP,” Okon wrote. “The lessons I have learned will guide me in my future plans. I remain committed to serving my community and working for progress.”

Her resignation adds to the growing political shifts in Cross River State, raising further questions about the party’s stability ahead of upcoming political activities.
