Kwara govt moves to eradicate street begging, hawking

The Kwara State Ministry of Social Development has partnered with the State Judiciary to tackle social vices like street begging and hawking.
The partnership aims to use legal means to prosecute offenders and deter others.
According to the Commissioner for Social Development, Hon. Mariam Nnafatima Imam, previous efforts to address these issues have yielded minimal results. She believes that legal action, including fines and sentencing, will be more effective in eradicating these social vices.
The Chief Judge of Kwara State, Hon. Justice Abiodun Ayodele Adebara, has commended the state government’s efforts towards social equity and justice. He assured that the Judiciary will collaborate with the Ministry of Social Development to implement policies and programs aimed at eradicating street begging and hawking.
This partnership is part of the state government’s efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of all residents, especially vulnerable groups. Traditional rulers will also be engaged to tackle these social vices through traditional institutions.
The move is seen as a significant step towards creating a more secure and prosperous society in Kwara State.
