Adeyanju threatens lawsuit as VeryDarkMan moved to EFCC custody

Controversial social media activist, Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), is now in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), according to an update from his legal team.
Human rights lawyer and activist, Deji Adeyanju, who has been at the forefront of defending VDM, confirmed the development on Saturday, stating that the influencer was handed over to the EFCC shortly after his arrest by police operatives in Abuja on Friday, May 2.
Adeyanju revealed that members of the legal team, led by Barrister Marvin Omorogbe, visited the EFCC facility where VDM is being held. However, the influencer reportedly refused to come out of his cell to meet with them. “He said he wouldn’t see anyone,” Adeyanju disclosed, hinting at the mental and emotional toll of the incident on the outspoken critic.
The activist further alleged that Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) played a role in facilitating VDM’s arrest. According to him, VDM was held at the bank’s exit point for more than five minutes—long enough for security operatives to close in and apprehend him.
Adeyanju said legal action is being considered against the bank for what he described as a “coordinated setup.” He added that a formal statement detailing the next steps would be released in due course.
VDM’s arrest followed his vocal criticism of GTBank over alleged unauthorized withdrawals from his mother’s account. His detention has since sparked debates online about financial accountability, abuse of power, and freedom of expression.
As of the time of this report, the EFCC has not issued an official statement on the matter.
