Ancelotti’s departure a major loss for Real Madrid – Carvajal

Real Madrid right-back Dani Carvajal has expressed his sadness at the impending departure of manager Carlo Ancelotti, while also speaking positively about the likely arrival of Xabi Alonso as his successor at the Bernabeu.
After a season largely disrupted by a serious injury, Carvajal is now fully focused on returning to form in time for the upcoming Club World Cup. However, the 32-year-old did not shy away from commenting on the major developments surrounding the Real Madrid dugout.
Speaking to reporters in a mixed zone interview, Carvajal reacted to the news that Ancelotti will leave the club at the end of the season to take charge of Brazil. The Italian, who has overseen two successful spells in the Spanish capital, has been a pivotal figure in the defender’s career.
“I’m sad about Carlo’s departure,” he admitted. “I’ve spent many years with him – first in his initial spell and now again in his second. We’ve won everything together. For me, he’s been like a footballing father. It saddens me deeply, but I hope the manager gets the send-off he deserves on Saturday, as the most decorated coach in the club’s history. I’m sure the stadium won’t leave him unmoved.”
Carvajal also spoke about the anticipated arrival of Xabi Alonso, with whom he shared a dressing room during the 2013/14 season. While the club have yet to confirm his appointment, the veteran defender believes the former midfielder is well-suited to the role.
“I don’t know if it’s official yet, but it looks like he’s coming,” said Carvajal. “He knows the club better than anyone – he’s been a player here, he’s worn the badge for years, and he knows exactly what it means to play for Real Madrid. That gives him an edge coming in as a manager.”
“Time will tell whether Xabi is the right man to turn things around after a season in which we’ve missed out on all three major trophies.
“That’s how football is – in the end, results tend to dictate the future of coaches and players alike. These are cycles. I’ve experienced exceptional times here, but also seasons when we’ve come away with nothing,” he concluded.
