Breaking: “I’m done playing games,” Wike blasts Makinde, pulls out of PDP truce

In a fiery declaration that lays bare the deepening crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, has pulled out of all reconciliation agreements within the party, accusing some top governors of “treachery,” “dishonesty,” and “serial betrayal.”
In a statement titled “PDP Crisis: My Position,” released on Sunday, Wike did not mince words, taking direct aim at Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, whom he described as “the architect of our problems.”
“I made it clear to the Governor of Oyo State, H.E. Seyi Makinde, that he was the architect of our problems,” Wike stated, referencing a closed-door G5 meeting held in Lagos. “Non-adherence to agreements reached was the bane of the party, and he was the chief culprit.”
Wike revealed that after the Lagos meeting, a broader reconciliation effort was held in Abuja at the residence of former Senate President Bukola Saraki. The meeting included Governors Bala Mohammed, Umaru Fintiri, and Makinde. According to Wike, tempers flared during the session, especially after he accused Bauchi Governor Bala Mohammed of hiding “under the facade of Chairman of PDP Governors Forum to serially renege on agreements.”
Despite initial progress, including an agreement to maintain Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the party’s National Secretary, Wike says those deals were quickly violated—allegedly orchestrated by Makinde and Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah.
“To my chagrin, Seyi Makinde had connived with Peter Mba… to recommend that if Ude Okoye was not adopted as Secretary, they would pull out of the PDP,” Wike alleged. “That resolution… cannot hold.”
The FCT Minister also condemned what he called a deliberate attempt to undermine the party’s internal processes. “Seyi Makinde organized some people in the National Secretariat to insist that the Deputy National Secretary should act as National Secretary, in violation of the agreement earlier reached.”
He cited a recent PDP zonal congress in Jos that was aborted after INEC refused to attend due to irregularities in documentation. “This is undeniably distasteful, provocative, and annoying, to say the least,” Wike fumed.
“I have been in this party since 1998 and have worked tirelessly for its survival,” he added. “It is on record that none of these persons have done anything close to what I have done… What is more painful is that I contributed substantially to most of these governors winning their elections.”
With frustration boiling over, Wike declared the end of his participation in all peace pacts. “Since it is now obvious that they would continue to play games to the detriment of the party… I have now firmly decided to pull out of all agreements hitherto reached. I have decided to fight on until justice is attained.”
