WAEC apologises on late night exams

West African Examinations Council, (WAEC), has explained the delay that led to sitting for one of the papers in its examinations on Wednesday.
In a statement released on Thursday, WAEC stated that the delay occurred in an effort to avoid examination malpractice.
While acknowledging the oversight, WAEC apologized for the delay which occured in multiple centres nationwide.
Moyosola Adesina, the Acting head of Public affairs, reaffirmed that the body was committed to preserving the integrity of the examination.
“While maintaining the integrity and security of our examination, we faced considerable challenges primarily due to our major aim of preventing leakage of any paper. While we successfully achieved our objective, it inadvertently impacted the timeliness and seamless conduct of the examination,” Adesina said.
WAEC also emphasized its efforts to improve the examination process for candidates in upcoming papers.
“Despite our best efforts, we encountered logistical hurdles, security concerns and sociocultural factors that negatively influenced our operations. In order to forestall future occurrences of this nature, the council is currently collaborating with security agencies,” the statement added.
The body also apologized to students, parents and guardians and schools for the major inconvenience.
“We recognise the importance of timely conduct of examinations and the impact of this decision on the candidates, their schools and parents, and we sincerely apologise for any inconveniences caused,” Adesina added.
