NAPTIP summons Speed Darlington

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has formally summoned controversial Nigerian singer Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington, following his viral Instagram live session in which he allegedly admitted to engaging in sexual activity with a 15-year-old girl.
In a letter dated May 28, 2025, the agency directed the singer to appear at its national headquarters in Abuja on Friday, May 30, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. without fail.
According to NAPTIP, Speed Darlington’s comments during the live broadcast raise serious concerns and warrant urgent investigation. The agency noted that the alleged actions, if confirmed, would constitute a clear violation of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition), Enforcement and Administration Act, 2015.
NAPTIP further stated that the incident may also breach certain provisions of the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act of 2015, adding a digital dimension to the gravity of the case.
The singer, who later claimed his remarks were a “joke,” has come under intense public scrutiny, with widespread calls for his arrest and prosecution. Human rights advocates, legal experts, and netizens have all demanded accountability, insisting that such comments cannot be dismissed as mere pranks.
As of press time, Speed Darlington has yet to issue a formal statement in response to NAPTIP’s summons.
