Panic as exam hall collapses on WAEC candidates

In a deeply troubling development, an examination hall at Government Secondary School, Namnai, in Gassol Local Government Area of Taraba State has reportedly collapsed on students sitting for the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
According to emerging reports, the affected students were in the middle of writing their exam when the structure gave way, sparking panic and confusion within the school premises. The extent of injuries sustained by the candidates is yet to be confirmed, and it remains unclear if any fatalities occurred.
As of the time of filing this report, no official statement has been issued by the Taraba State government, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), or relevant emergency agencies.
This unfortunate incident adds to a growing list of controversies that have marred this year’s WASSCE. Just days earlier, videos went viral showing students in Taraba and Delta states writing their exams late at night using candles and phone flashlights due to the lack of electricity — a scenario that drew heavy criticism and raised concerns about the welfare and safety of students.
Nigerians have taken to social media to express outrage, demanding accountability and immediate intervention from both state and federal education authorities.
