The All Progressives Congress (APC) has extended its condolences to the government and people of Niger State following a devastating flood that ravaged the market town of Mokwa in Mokwa Local Government Area.
In a statement signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, Esq., the APC described the flood as a “disaster” and expressed “deepest sympathies” to those affected.
“We commiserate with the government and good people of Niger State over the devastating flood that submerged the market town of Mokwa,” the statement read.
The party offered special condolences to those who lost loved ones and were displaced. “In particular, our deepest sympathies are with families that have lost loved ones and those displaced from their homes as a result of this disaster,” Morka said.
Lauding the efforts of those responding on the ground, the APC praised the bravery and dedication of emergency workers and local residents. “We commend the valiant efforts of first responders and courageous citizens engaged in search, rescue and recovery operations in the flood-affected districts,” the statement added.
The APC called on the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), as well as other relevant federal, state, and local authorities, to escalate relief efforts. “We urge the National Emergency Relief Agency (NEMA) and other federal, state and local authorities to expand efforts and interventions to quickly mitigate the impact of the disaster and bring relief to victims,” Morka stated.
The party also offered prayers for the victims and those recovering from injuries. “It is our prayer that the souls of all who have died may find eternal rest, as we pray for quick recovery and healing for those injured in this tragedy. Amen,” the statement concluded.
The flooding in Mokwa has drawn national concern, as images and reports of widespread destruction continue to emerge. Emergency teams are on the ground, working to rescue stranded individuals and provide essential aid.
