Osun: Ex-Accord candidate declares governorship bid under APC

Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi, a former Accord Party governorship candidate in the 2022 Osun election, has declared his intention to run for governor again—this time under the banner of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Ogunbiyi made the announcement on Saturday during a gathering with party members and supporters in Ile-Ogbo, Osun State.
Addressing growing speculation about internal rivalry within the APC due to the number of interested aspirants, Ogunbiyi dismissed concerns, maintaining that the party remains united in its mission to reclaim the governorship seat in 2026.
“The number of aspirants is not a problem. Whether we are twenty or fifty, it only shows that the APC is vibrant. What matters is that we all remain committed to the party’s victory,” he said.
Ogunbiyi also emphasized that the method of selecting the party’s candidate—whether through direct primaries, consensus, or other processes—will be decided by the party leadership at the appropriate time.
He warned against defection by any aspirant who may not secure the party’s ticket, describing such moves as “unthinkable” and counterproductive to party unity.
“We all know each other, and we share the same progressive vision. There’s no room for bitterness or defection. It’s about service and strategy, not desperation,” he said.
The business mogul also praised President Bola Tinubu, calling him a “true democrat” and an inspiration to party members across the country.
While Ogunbiyi declined to reveal the full scope of his political blueprint, he assured supporters that engagements and consultations would intensify in the coming months.
“As we move forward, I will be meeting with stakeholders across the state to share my vision for Osun. But today, it’s about reaffirming my commitment to our shared APC ideals,” he added.
Ogunbiyi’s declaration adds momentum to the growing list of APC hopefuls eyeing the 2026 governorship ticket in Osun State.
