Tears as retired police officer gets ₦2 million pension after 35-year in service

A retired Superintendent of the Nigerian Police Force has revealed that his pension entitlement, after 35 years of service, is a mere ₦2 million.

The emotional disclosure was captured in a viral video posted on X (formerly Twitter) by user @ChuksEricE, showing the visibly heartbroken officer recounting his ordeal.

According to him, he officially retired from the Force on October 1, 2023, but received no financial benefits until a few weeks ago when he was contacted regarding his pension. To his shock, he was told that he would be paid just ₦3 million in total — ₦1 million as arrears from the months following his retirement, and ₦2 million as his full pension entitlement.

“I retired from the Nigerian police in 2023, October 1st. Since then, nothing has been paid to me. Just two weeks ago, they called me and said they’re going to pay me ₦3 million. I asked, ‘What for?’ They said that’s my pension,” the retired officer narrated.

“The ₦3 million is not even the entire pension. ₦1 million is my arrears, and ₦2 million is what they said is my total entitlement. I can’t serve this country for 35 years and be paid just ₦2 million. The devil is a liar,” he added, his voice breaking.

The video quickly gained traction online, drawing widespread condemnation from Nigerians who described the treatment as disgraceful and unjust.
