Nationwide strike: Nigerian nurses, midwives join join industrial action

The Federal Medical Centre, Gusau chapter of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) has formally declared its support for the nationwide strike called by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC), joining the industrial action alongside other healthcare workers.
The decision follows a directive from NANNM’s National office.
In a letter addressed to the Medical Director of the Federal Medical Centre in Gusau, that its intention to participate in the nationwide strike, effective 10:00 am Monday.
In a letter signed by Unit PRO Comrade Salisu Abubakar, the association confirmed that the strike will be indefinite.
The announcement reads: “We write to bring to the notice of the management that we are in receipt of directive from NANNM National to embark on NLC/TUC nationwide strike. Hence, we have directed our members to join the strike with effect from 10:00 am today.”
This move is part of a larger labor uprising seeking better working conditions and compensation, with various Nigerian workforce sectors staging synchronized protests. The strike’s effects are anticipated to be far-reaching, impacting crucial services like healthcare delivery and more.
The Federal Medical Centre in Gusau and other impacted institutions are urged to brace themselves for potential disruptions and develop contingency strategies to mitigate the expected challenges that may arise during the strike.
