Ado Bayero barred by court from parading self as Emir of Kano

A Kano State High Court, under the jurisdiction of Justice Amina Aliyu, has issued a restraining order against Aminu Ado-Bayero and four other deposed Emirs of Bichi, Rano, Gaya, and Karaye, prohibiting them from presenting themselves as Emirs.
The court’s ruling on Monday, delivered by Justice Aliyu, barred the deposed 15th Emir of Kano and four other former Emirs, along with their representatives and appointees, from parading themselves as Emirs, effectively stripping them of their royal titles and powers.
As previously reported, the Kano State Government had initiated legal action, filing a lawsuit with the state High Court, seeking an injunction to prevent the deposed 15th Emir, Aminu Bayero, and the four other former Emirs of Karaye, Bichi, Rano, and Gaya, from presenting themselves as Emirs.
The government also gave the deposed Emirs 48 hours within which to vacate their respective palaces after being deposed.
However, Justice Aliyu said while delivering the judgment, that the issue of evicting the deposed Emir, Bayero, from his Nassarawa mini palace is a rent tribunal matter and is not before it.
In her judgment, she directed the deposed Emir and four other former Emirs to quickly hand over all the Emirate Traditional Royal Artefacts to the government and the substantive Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II.
Justice Aliyu noted that the State Assembly’s repeal of the Emirate Council Law in 2024 was legally sound, as it was done in accordance with the constitutional provisions outlined in Section 4.
Justice Aliyu also held that Governor Abba Yusuf’s decision to give his assent to the law was equally in compliance with the Constitution.
