Former National Auditor of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Managing Director of National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Dr. George Moghalu, on Saturday emerged the candidate of Labour Party (LP) for the November 8 Anambra State governorship election.

Moghalu’s rivalry, John Chuma Nwosu stepped for him even before the election.

The LP brand candidate, polled a total of 573 delegate votes to defeat his only contestant, Chuma Nwosu, who got 19 votes in the hitchfree governorship primary election held in Awka, the State capital amidst tight security.

Speaking after the free, fair, transparent primary, Moghalu, admitted that though contesting against the incumbent, Chukwuma Charles Soludo, will not be a tea party, defeating him is however doable.

He assured the delegates and the people of Anambra State that he will not betray the confidence they bestowed in him.
Describing himself as the best man for the job.

He also promised to restore the confidence the people of the State have lost in the present government.

According to him; “The election we are going into on November 8, in the football palace is the Premier League which requires our first team. I appeal to the delegates for this primary to have the analogy in your mind before taking that decision today.

“You have to chose a candidate that you are going to use for the main election. Running an election against an incumbent is not a tea party but it is doable and for us to do it, we must put the first foot forward. This is what I am pleading with you to put your confidence in me and I will not betray your confidence if you check my track records,” he said.

Restating his mission, Moghalu said: “We are going into this election determined to change the narrative. The trajectory today is such that Anambra State needs a rejig. Our security and basic infrastructure have all failed and something has to be done.

“I must acknowledge that there are areas they have done very well, but there is need for improvement and we will definitely done those improvements for the benefit of our people.

“The most important and critical thing that has taken flight in the politics of Anambra is that the people have lost confidence in their government and our mission is to restore the confidence of our people in their government and that can only be possible by offering them good governance. Restore your confidence in me and I will justify it and change the narrative.

“I appeal to you to trust me, check my political trajectory and you will see that I have never started a project I did not complete. I represent the light that will bring glory for the name of God Almighty and for the benefit of NdiAnambra,” he assured.

In his acceptance speech, Moghalu declared that there is no victor and vanquish, appealing to his contestant and his supporters to join hands in ensuring that the party emerges victorious in the November 8 governorship election.
