Barcelona set historic unbeaten run in 2025

Barcelona remain unbeaten in 2025, having now gone 22 consecutive matches without a loss, a feat they hadn’t achieved since 2016, when Luis Enrique set the same record. Hansi Flick now has the chance to break it and claim the best unbeaten run of the century.

The mood around the team is soaring as they head into the final two months of the season, buoyed by the security and confidence instilled by Hansi Flick’s arrival, as well as the excellent form they are enjoying.

So far in 2025, they have not lost, and the club regularly remind everyone of this streak after every match they avoid defeat. On Saturday, against Betis, they couldn’t secure a win, but the draw keeps their historic unbeaten run intact, a record previously set by Luis Enrique.

No one has broken it, but now the German coach has the chance to do so, provided they don’t lose to Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League.

Looking back at the historical records via BeSoccer Pro, Barcelona’s current unbeaten run of 22 matches under Flick not only matches the best of the century – across all official competitions, but becomes the second-longest unbeaten streak in the 21st century.

Since their Copa del Rey tie against Barbastro in early January, the German coach has overseen 18 wins and four draws, with the draws coming against Getafe, Atalanta and Atletico Madrid in the first leg of the Copa del Rey semi-finals.

Luis Enrique’s side also went 22 matches unbeaten, with a record of 19 wins and three draws, before a 1-2 defeat to Zinedine Zidane’s Real Madrid at the Camp Nou ended their run. Luis Enrique also saw his side score 70 goals and concede just 14.

In comparison, Flick’s Barcelona have scored 69 – before the Betis match, and conceded 21. In recent years, Barcelona have struggled to start a year strongly. Only in 2023, during one of Xavi Hernandez’s best spells at the helm, did they go on a 13-match unbeaten streak before Manchester United ended it with a 2-1 win in the Europa League at Old Trafford.

The more contemporary Barcelona have struggled to find their rhythm at the start of each year since 2016, when Luis Enrique set the record for the best start.

Between 2008 and 2014, especially under Pep Guardiola and Tito Vilanova, Barcelona also had notable unbeaten streaks at the beginning of the year: 15 in 2008, 12 in 2009, and 11 in 2012.

A decade earlier, in 2001, during the first year of the century, Serra Ferrer managed to reach 10. In 2004, 2005, 2015, and 2017, Barcelona lost their opening match of the year.
