Bauchi: Bala to leverage on livestock sector for overall development


Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed has pledged his administration’s commitment to reforming livestock sector in the state towards harnessing the abandoned resources in the sector to improve the economy.
The Governor made the disclosure Wednesday when he received in audience the Presidential Livestock Reforms Implementation Committee at the state council chamber Government House, Bauchi.
He pledged his administration’s sincere commitment to improving the state economy by taking advantage of the presidential committee on livestock reform.
The Governor acknowledged the peaceful architecture and large forest that Bauchi state is blessed with, which according to him, if properly harnessed in the best way will improve food security and create more job opportunity.
Governor Bala Mohammed also promised to set up a committee at the state level to design template for the state government on the best way to reform the livestock sector in the State.
Responding to a plea earlier raised by the presidential committee on livestock reform to maximize investment at the federal government initiative situated in Sullubawa Community in Toro Local Government Area, Governor Bala Mohammed pledged to man the Remodeled Federal initiative in the state with the needed manpower and the needed resources.
Earlier in his remarks ,the co-chair of the Presidential Livestock Reform Implementation Committee Prof. Attahiru Jega explained that the committee is in Bauchi considering the interest of the State Governor in improving the state economy through the livestock sector which made him to invite the committee to the State with the aim of engaging critical stakeholders in the livestock sector to proffer possible way of improving livestock sector thereby improving the state economy.
Prof. Jega highlighted some of the activities to be carried out in Bauchi State to include engaging with stakeholders and creating awareness on the immense importance of reforming livestock sector for overall development.
The co-chair. Acknowledged the tremendous impact that livestock sector play in improving economy of a Nation however lamented that for over the years critical actors in the sector abandoned it.
He emphasized that the right time to unlock the chain the sector is now.
It could be recalled that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu inaugurated the Presidential livestock Reform Implementation Committee on the 19th of July 2024.
