The Bauchi State Government has flagged off the June 2025 National Immunisation Plus Days with the aim of vaccinating over 2.2 million eligible children under the age of five across the state.

Speaking at the launch of the exercise in Miri Community, Bauchi Local Government Area, the State Commissioner for Health, Sani Dambam, said: “The state government has put in place a comprehensive plan to ensure the successful implementation of the immunisation exercise, which will provide children with life-saving vaccines against killer diseases such as polio, measles, and others.”

Dambam stressed the importance of immunisation in safeguarding children’s health and reducing child mortality and encouraged parents and caregivers to take advantage of the campaign to ensure their wards are fully protected.

Also addressing the gathering, the Chairman of the State Primary Health Care Development Board, Rilwanu Mohammed, stated that the National Immunisation Plus Days is a nationwide initiative aimed at strengthening routine immunisation and reaching every child with life-saving vaccines.

“The exercise is expected to run for four days, with immunisation teams visiting communities, schools, and health facilities to administer vaccines,” Mohammed said.

Rilwanu reiterated the state government’s dedication to improving child health outcomes, highlighting ongoing efforts to boost immunisation coverage and curb the spread of vaccine-preventable diseases.

In his remarks, the district head of Miri and chief host of the event, Hussaini Abubakar, said, “The NIPDs initiative is expected to contribute significantly to the state’s progress towards achieving immunity and protecting the health and well-being of its citizens.”

He commended the state government for its commitment to healthcare development and appealed for the upgrade of the community’s primary healthcare centre to the status of a cottage hospital.
