Bauchi journalists mourn demise of colleague, Hafsat Adebayo

The Chairman, Correspondents’ Chapel, Nigeria Union of Journalists, Bauchi State Council, Mal. Ahmed Mohammed, has expressed sadness over the demise of Hafsat Adebayo.

Adebayo, died on Monday morning after battling a prolonged brain tumor and was a member of the Correspondents’ Chapel, Nigeria Union of Journalists, Bauchi State Council.

The mother of one, who worked for Daily Post as a Correspondent in Bauchi State for many years, was buried at about 11am on Monday in accordance with Islamic rites.

She was a one-time Financial Secretary and Treasurer of the Correspondent’ Chapel in the State.

In a tribute, Mal. Mohammed described her as a brilliant writer who touched the lives of countless people.

“Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi rajioun. My esteemed colleagues, it is with profound sadness that we received the passing away of our esteemed colleague, Mrs Hafsat Adebayo.

“Hafsat was a dedicated colleague, a passionate mother, and a brilliant reporter who touched the lives of countless people. Her wisdom, guidance, and unwavering commitment to excellence will be deeply missed.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to Hafsat’s family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time. May her legacy continue to inspire and motivate us to strive for more excellence and professionalism,” he wrote.

Similarly, the Chairman, NUJ, Bauchi State Council, Mal. Umar Saidu, expressed shock over the incident.

“Very sad news, but God decision is the best, may her soul rest in peace. Accept our condolences please,” he stated.

The former National Secretary of the NUJ, Mal. Shuaibu Leman, in a terse message also wrote: “….From God we come and to Him we shall all one day return…. May Almighty Allah grant the family the fortitude to bear the great loss. May Allah forgive her shortcomings and dwell her soul in Aljannat firdausi. Fare thee well.”

The former Chief Press Secretary to former Governor Isa Yuguda, Ishola Michael, said she fought greatly to stay alive but her time on earth was up.

“Hafast was a hardworking woman, a devoured wife and caring mother. She really fought to stay alive but her time was up and she had to leave. May her soul rest in peace and may God comfort and console her immediate family, especially her young son,” he wrote.

In her tribute, the immediate past Chairperson, Nigeria Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Bauchi State, Mrs. Bulak Afsa, also wrote: “May her soul rest in peace, go well.”

Meanwhile, her colleagues, Members of the Correspondents’ Chapel, the NUJ, friends and loved ones have continued to expressed shock over the unfortunate demise of Mrs. Adebayo.

They described her as a hardworking, intelligent and peace-loving journalist who would be greatly missed.

They recounted their encounters and the moments they shared together with her in the media profession for over a decade and a half. END
