Breaking: Court declares 27 Wike loyal-lawmakers PDP members

A Rivers State High Court has issued a ruling declaring that Martin Amaewhuke and 27 other members of the Rivers State House of Assembly remain valid members of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP).
On Monday, the Court delivered a judgment dismissing a lawsuit filed by Wosa Amadi and three others, which aimed to declare the seats of 27 lawmakers vacant due to their departure from the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) in December 2023.
In his judgement, the Presiding Judge, Justice Okogbule Gbasam, ruled that Martin Amaewhule and the 26 other lawmakers are still members of the PDP.

Justice Gbasam further held that the plaintiffs failed to provide conclusive evidence to substantiate their claim that the 27 lawmakers had indeed defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The court emphasized that newspaper clippings, radio broadcasts.
The court clarified that a defection can solely be established through tangible evidence, including the party’s membership register, a valid membership card, and fulfillment of all membership requirements.
