Breaking: EFCC arrests Aisha Achimugu

Renowned business executive and socialite, Aisha Sulaiman Achimugu, has been arrested by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) shortly after arriving in Nigeria from the United Kingdom.
Her legal team confirmed the development in a statement on Tuesday, disclosing that Achimugu was taken into custody by EFCC officials around 5 a.m. at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
Discovererngr.com reports that the arrest comes amid an ongoing investigation by the anti-graft agency into allegations of criminal conspiracy and money laundering linked to the businesswoman. Her legal counsel had earlier informed the Federal High Court in Abuja that she intended to report to the EFCC on Tuesday in compliance with a court directive.
On Monday, Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court, Abuja, ordered Achimugu to present herself before the EFCC on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, and appear before the court the following day, Wednesday, April 30, for further proceedings in the case.
Achimugu’s legal team has criticized the EFCC’s action, describing the arrest as a breach of due process, given that her return and intention to honour the agency’s invitation had already been communicated to the court.
As of the time of filing this report, the EFCC has yet to issue an official statement regarding her detention.
