Breaking: FG begins payment of new minimum wage

The Federal Government has commenced payment of the new minimum wage to civil servants on its payroll, effective Thursday, September 26, 2024.
Bawa Mokwa, spokesperson for the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, confirmed this in an interview, assuring that workers will start receiving alerts for their new salary payments from today.
This move follows the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission’s announcement on Tuesday that the payment of the new minimum wage would commence from July 2024. According to NSIWC Chairman Ekpo Nta, this date was chosen because it marks when the President approved the bill after its passage by the National Assembly.
With this development, federal civil servants can expect to receive their new salaries, bringing relief and increased financial stability. The payment of the new minimum wage is a welcome step, acknowledging the hard work and dedication of Nigeria’s civil servants.
Other states are also expected to follow suit, with some already announcing plans to implement the new minimum wage. This move is anticipated to benefit workers across the country, providing a long-awaited boost to their compensation.
