Breaking: Panic as electricity workers declare nationwide strike

Nigeria faces a looming nationwide power outage as electricity workers prepare to withdraw their services starting Sunday midnight, in solidarity with the organized labour’s indefinite strike scheduled to begin on Monday, June 3rd, 2024.
Dominic Igwebike, the acting General Secretary of the National Union of Electricity Employees, on Friday, announced that the union will join the indefinite strike action called by the Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress.
This decision comes in response to the federal government’s failure to implement a new minimum wage and reverse the recent 240% electricity tariff increase, which took effect on April 3.
“The withdrawal of services becomes effective Sunday 2nd June by midnight”, the notice stated.
