Breaking: Police ban Sallah Durbar in Kano

The Kano State Police Command has issued a ban on all Durbar festivities and activities across the state, effective immediately.
The ban announced by Abdullahi Kiyawa, the Police Public Relations Officer, is in a response to prevailing security concerns and aims to ensure the safety of the public.
Prior to the ban, the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, had called upon district heads to participate in the Durbar festival and sought police support to guarantee a secure environment for the event.
However, citing security reports and consultations with relevant stakeholders, the police have opted to enforce the ban in the interest of public safety during the upcoming Eid-El-Kabir celebrations.
In a statement, the police assured Muslim faithful and residents of Kano of adequate security measures to maintain peace throughout the festive period.
The police further stressed the need for the community to adhere to tradition by performing Eid prayers at designated locations, while also appealing for sustained cooperation from all stakeholders to ensure the safety and well-being of the community.
The police also encouraged residents to remain vigilant and alert, urging them to report any suspicious or unusual activities to their local law enforcement agencies without delay.
