Breaking: Tinubu shakes up leadership at federal universities

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has  announced changes in the leadership of several federal universities in Nigeria.

The changes, which take effect immediately, aim to revitalize the country’s higher education system through dynamic leadership and accountability.

Key changes include the dissolution of the entire governing council at Yakubu Gowon University (formerly University of Abuja), and the removal of Professor Aisha Sani Maikudi as Vice-Chancellor. Senator Lanre Tejuoso has been appointed Pro-Chancellor, while Professor Lar Patricia Manko will serve as Acting Vice Chancellor for six months.

At the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), Professor Polycarp Emeka Chigbu has been removed as Acting Vice-Chancellor, and Professor Oguejiofu T. Ujam has been appointed as his successor for six months. Gen. Ike Nwachukwu has been reassigned as Pro-Chancellor at the University of Uyo, and Engineer Olubunmi Kayode Ojo has been appointed as the new Pro-Chancellor of UNN.

Other appointments include Professor Zubairu Tajo Abdullahi as the new Pro-Chancellor of the Federal University of Lokoja, Senator Sani Stores as the new Pro-Chancellor of Alvan Ikoku University of Education, and Barrister Olugbenga Kukoyi as the new Pro-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka, Anambra State.

These changes reflect President Tinubu’s commitment to strengthening governance and academic excellence within Nigeria’s tertiary education sector.
