Children’s Day: NAWOJ commends Bauchi govt for improved children’s welfare

As Nigeria joins the rest of the world in celebrating Children’s Day, Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Bauchi State Chapter has commended the government and the State First Lady, Hajiya Aisha Bala Mohammed for their efforts towards improving the well-being of children especially the girl-child.
NAWOJ further called on parents and guardians to take the responsibility of their children with all seriousness to make them good leaders of tomorrow.
In a press release to commemorate the day, the Chairperson of NAWOJ, Rashida Yusuf, said it is a moment to reflect on the myriad of challenges facing the country’s young citizens.
She said while Children’s Day is intended to celebrate childhood and promote the welfare of children, it also highlights the severe crises that hinder the growth and development of many children across the nation.
“Childhood mortality remains a significant concern in Nigeria, with malaria being a leading cause of death among children under five.
“Additionally, diseases like measles, polio, and pneumonia despite being preventable through vaccination continue to claim young lives.”
She cautioned parents who downplay their children’s studies that education is a fundamental right, “yet there are parents that do not want to send their children to schools for one reason or another.
“Child labour remains a pervasive issue in Nigeria, driven by poverty and lack of access to education,” she said. END
