Controversy over throwback video Of Akpabio fighting for senate seat under Saraki

A resurfaced video of Senate President Godswill Akpabio protesting against a seating arrangement under former Senate President Bukola Saraki has sent the social media abuzz, with many calling out Akpabio for double standards in his clash with Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
The throwback clip, which has been widely shared on various Nigeria news reports, shows Akpabio during the 8th Senate, passionately quoting Senate rules to defend his right to retain his seat. In his words, he cited “Order 43, you cannot…”, insisting that his designated seat should not be altered.
This has drawn comparisons to the current controversy, where Akpabio ruled against Natasha for resisting a similar seat reassignment in the 10th Senate. The Kogi Central senator had refused to move from her original seat, leading to a heated exchange where Akpabio even ordered the sergeant-at-arms to remove her before other lawmakers intervened.
With the video now making rounds, many Nigerians are accusing Akpabio of hypocrisy, questioning why he is now punishing Natasha for fighting the same battle he once fought under Saraki’s leadership.
Reacting to the viral footage, netizens have called for fairness and consistency in legislative leadership, with some stating that Akpabio should remember his own past struggles before silencing Natasha. The video has also added fuel to ongoing calls for the Senate to reconsider Akpabio’s leadership style and uphold democratic values.
As the debate rages on, the resurfaced clip has become a major talking point, further polarizing opinions on Akpabio’s handling of Natasha’s case.
