Court orders arrest of Reno Omokri over alleged defamation

A Magistrate Court sitting in Abuja has ordered the arrest and detention of a former aide, Reno Omokri, in connection with allegations of defamation against Dunamis Church Pastor Paul Enenche.
The court’s decision, issued on January 13, 2025, also applies to former Dunamis Church Pastor Abraham Daniel and two individuals identified as Alexander Enenche and Peter Enenche.
The remand order was granted following an ex-parte motion filed by the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
The motion requested the detention of the accused individuals to facilitate ongoing investigations.
Presiding over the case, Chief Magistrate Emmanuel Iyanna directed that the respondents be detained until their arraignment and prosecution.
The court scheduled their next appearance for January 30, 2025.
The legal battle traces back to a petition filed by Senior Advocate of Nigeria Patrick O. Okolo.
The petition accused Reno Omokri, along with others, of cyberbullying, criminal defamation, spreading false information, and inciting public unrest.
Reports indicate that these accusations stem from disagreements following Pastor Abraham Daniel’s resignation from Dunamis Church.
Sources revealed that Pastor Daniel left the church after over a decade of service due to conflicts with Pastor Paul Enenche.
Following his resignation, Daniel reportedly faced threats through calls and social media.
Allegedly, these incidents culminated in a car accident, after which plainclothes officers arrested him on Pastor Enenche’s orders.
Pastor Daniel claimed he was pressured to apologize to Pastor Enenche and delete his social media posts about the church.
Despite complying, a purported gentleman’s agreement to compensate Daniel for his losses was reportedly breached, further straining relations.
The police are also investigating allegations involving Omokri, including social media posts about church matters.
The accused individuals are expected to face trial after the conclusion of the investigation.
