Court reinstates Rivers lawmakers

The Court of Appeal in a significant judicial decision, has reversed a previous ruling by the Rivers State High Court, effectively reinstating Martin Amaewhule as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly and 24 other lawmakers.
The appellate court’s three-man panel, led by Justice Jimi Olukayode-Bada, ruled that the State High Court exceeded its jurisdiction by issuing an ex parte order, citing Section 273 of the Constitution.
This landmark ruling lifts the restrictions on the lawmakers, enabling them to resume their legislative duties. The decision is seen as a significant development in the state’s political landscape.
