Day 2: Shettima speaks amidst hunger protests

Vice President Kashim Shettima, has reacted to the ongoing protests against economic hardship, hunger, and bad governance in the country.
Shettima while speaking as a guest at an event, addressed the grievances of the protesters, assuring them that the Federal Government is aware of their demands and is taking steps to address them.
Nigerians are facing one of the worst inflation and economic crises due to the government’s removal of petrol subsidies and the unification of foreign exchange rates.
As a result of this, Nigerians and other civil society groups have decided to hit the streets to air their grievances and make their voices heard.
The protest which has entered its second day has been relatively peaceful with reports of violence in some Northern states as some hoodlums hijacked the peaceful protests and turned the states into war zones.
During the protest a police officer was reportedly killed by friendly fire in Katsina in an attempt to disperse protesters.
Reports also say at least 17 protesters in different parts of the country were killed by police officers while protesting hunger on Monday.
Others were either injured or assaulted by the security operatives for exercising their rights to peaceful demonstrations.
