Drama as parent sends thugs after vice principal for seizing son’s phone during WAEC

Tension erupted at Complete Child Development College, Aule, Akure, Ondo State, following a shocking incident in which suspected thugs assaulted the school’s Vice Principal, Mr. Rotifa, for preventing a student from engaging in examination malpractice during the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
According to a preliminary report from the Ondo State Ministry of Education, the violent attack stemmed from a disciplinary action taken by Mr. Rotifa, who reportedly confiscated an android phone from an SS3 student caught with the device during the exam on May 26 — a clear violation of examination regulations.
The situation escalated days later when the student’s mother allegedly stormed the school to confront management, demanding the return of the seized phone. Under pressure, the school’s proprietor ordered that the device be handed back.
Things took a disturbing turn when the student’s brother — said to be a former student of the school — allegedly returned with some boys to harass and threaten Mr. Rotifa. Sensing danger, the Vice Principal lodged a formal complaint with the police.
Police officers escorted Mr. Rotifa in their van to locate the suspects, but the operation took a violent twist. On their way back to the station, the assailants reportedly intercepted the police van, dragged Mr. Rotifa out, and brutally attacked him in broad daylight. He was later rushed to the hospital for treatment.
In a statement signed by the Director of Schools at the Ministry of Education, the school principal disclosed that although Mr. Rotifa has since been discharged, he has yet to return home out of fear for his safety.
“The boys were seen loitering around after school hours. The Vice Principal reported to the police, but as they searched for the suspects, the boys ambushed the police van and beat him up. He is now out of the hospital but remains in hiding,” the report read.
The ministry has confirmed that investigations are ongoing and that efforts are being made to apprehend the culprits. It also assured the public that security measures are being reinforced to protect staff and students for the remainder of the WASSCE period.
