EFCC breaks silence on viral Naira abuse video involving Tompolo

The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Olanipekun Olukoyede has addressed the recent controversy surrounding former Niger Delta militant leader, Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, following a viral video that sparked allegations of naira abuse.
Speaking in a video that has since circulated widely, the EFCC boss confirmed that Tompolo has been invited by the commission in connection with the video, stressing that no one is above the law. “We have invited Tompolo to Nigeria, the whole Nigerians know that,” he stated, affirming the commission’s commitment to uphold justice without bias.
While acknowledging the concerns raised by the public, the EFCC Chairman cautioned against passing judgment prematurely. “Nobody should condemn Tompolo for their allegations,” he said, urging Nigerians to allow the law to take its course. “It’s just a mere allegation for now,” he emphasized repeatedly, underscoring the importance of due process.
He revealed that the commission is conducting a forensic analysis of the viral footage to determine its authenticity. “We will subject this video to forensic analysis,” he assured, adding that in today’s digital age, manipulated content is a real concern. “Because these days too, people can impose,” he warned, hinting at the possibility of doctored evidence.
The EFCC Chairman reiterated that an investigation is ongoing and Tompolo will be given a fair hearing. “We’re inviting him,” he said. “Not until you conclude the case,” he added, making it clear that no conclusions will be drawn until all facts are verified.
The video and the EFCC’s response have created a wave of mixed reactions online. While some Nigerians have praised the commission’s stance on due process, others have questioned the timing and thoroughness of the investigation.
Read some netizens’ reactions below;
@bigfish: These guys are taking a piss.
It appears that Nigeria operates under a two-tiered justice system, where the wealthy often evade accountability while the poor face swift punishment.
The @officialEFCC seems to outlived its usefulness, and public trust in the agency is at an all-time low. It’s time to demand accountability and take back our nation.
The EFCC needs to be scraped or totally reformed.
We have criminals littered all over the government but they will rather break doors and harass the youth.
@flourish: The fair of tompolo
@olawills: Using a cowardly approach to preemptively defend Tompolo “Awon Were”
@retang: Was there any forensic analysis before they arrested Bobrisky?
Forensic ko forensic ni!
@mrjoshua: Typical,
No honour, no integrity
Just slaves in suits dancing to the tune money is playing.
@loadedbroda: Oya sorry sir! No condemnation to those who have immunity from the government we’re very sorry sir!
Thunder fire you with that forensic analysis
As the EFCC proceeds with its inquiry, all eyes remain on how the case unfolds and whether justice will be served with transparency and fairness.
