Effiong slams Tinubu’s national broadcast

A human rights activist Inibehe Effiong, has expressed strong disappointment and frustration with President Tinubu’s recent speech, calling it “a pack of empty words” and “a time-wasting load of irrelevancies”.

He feels that the government is “fatalistically deaf and willfully blind” to the sufferings and yearnings of Nigerians.

Effiong argues that President Tinubu is disconnected from the reality of everyday Nigerians, living in an “imaginary Nigeria” that only exists in his head.

He criticizes the speech for not addressing the specific demands of protesters, including electoral reform, reversal of “horrible and devastating economic policies”, and reduction of the over-bloated size of the government.

Effiong also questions the sincerity of the President’s call for dialogue, suggesting that it is “in bad faith”.

He condemns the government’s handling of the protests, particularly the “mindless killing of protesters by security agencies”, and argues that the President’s response has justified the reasons for the nationwide protest.

Effiong emphasizes that a government is only useful if it serves the interest of the governed, and that this government is “anti-people”.

He urges the government to listen to the voices of Nigerians and work towards creating a more just and equitable society.
