El-Rufai stands on truth: Why APC’s attacks can’t erase reality, by Sanusi A.S Maikudi

The recent press statement issued by the All Progressives Congress (APC) attacking Mallam Nasir El-Rufai is a desperate and poorly conceived attempt to deflect from the undeniable truth—APC has strayed from its founding principles and has become a party of personal interests rather than national progress.
Mallam El-Rufai, a former Governor of Kaduna State and a key figure in the formation of APC, spoke honestly about the state of the party in his interview with BBC Hausa. Rather than addressing the critical issues he raised, the APC leadership has resorted to name-calling, baseless accusations, and personal attacks. This reaction only confirms what Nigerians already know: APC is intolerant of dissent and unwilling to confront the failures of its government.
It is laughable that APC claims El-Rufai is simply “sulking” over a failed ministerial bid. Those making this claim conveniently ignore his long-standing reputation as a technocrat and reformer, with or without a ministerial position. The truth is, El-Rufai has always stood for good governance, accountability, and bold reforms—values that APC has abandoned in favor of political patronage and self-interest.
APC’s attempt to paint the Tinubu administration as a success story falls flat in the face of Nigeria’s harsh realities. The removal of fuel subsidies without a proper economic cushion has led to skyrocketing inflation, unprecedented hardship, and a struggling economy. The so-called exchange rate unification has worsened the naira’s value, further crippling businesses and increasing the cost of living. Meanwhile, insecurity continues to ravage communities, and the government’s policies have done little to alleviate the suffering of ordinary Nigerians.
El-Rufai’s decision to explore a new political platform is not about self-interest but about salvaging Nigeria from the stranglehold of a failed ruling party. Nigerians deserve leadership that prioritizes their welfare over political survival. If APC is truly confident in its supposed achievements, it should welcome debate rather than resorting to cheap attacks.
Mallam Nasir El-Rufai will continue to stand on the side of truth, principle, and the Nigerian people. No amount of propaganda or intimidation will change the fact that APC has lost its way, and Nigerians are seeing through its deception.
