The family of Salome Eleojo Adaidu, the young woman allegedly murdered by self-proclaimed gospel singer Timileyin Ajayi, has denied any prior knowledge of the suspect, dismissing claims that he was in a romantic relationship with their daughter.
The deceased’s elder sister, Patience Adaidu, expressed frustration with the handling of the case by the police and their lack of communication.
“In my family, we’ve never seen that guy before. We don’t know him,” Patience said. “He claimed he had known my sister for a year, but we have never heard his name or seen him in our lives.”
Patience narrated that Salome left home on Saturday to visit a friend named Maxwell. The next day, the family was informed she had been in an accident in Uke, only to discover upon arrival that her death was the result of a brutal murder. “Someone carried her away and killed her. They cut her body into pieces: her head, hands, legs, even her toes. It was horrifying,” Patience recounted.
The suspect was apprehended after a motorcyclist transporting him noticed blood dripping from a sack he was carrying. “The bike man stopped and raised the alarm. The man tried to offer N100 million to avoid being reported, but the police took him into custody,” Patience said.
The family expressed concerns about the police’s lack of transparency and the potential transfer of the case to Keffi, Nasarawa State, even though the crime occurred in Abuja. “The officers at the Orozo Police Station are not giving us any information,” Patience lamented. “I’ve heard from others that some of my sister’s body parts were buried elsewhere, but the police didn’t inform us. We have to exhume her remains and give her a proper burial.”
She continued, “The case hasn’t been transferred to Abuja headquarters. It feels like it’s moving backward. We just want justice. Let the suspect be interrogated properly, and let the police tell us what happened.”
Recall that Tribune Online reported that the suspect, Timileyin Ajayi, was apprehended during a Sunday church service in Orozo, Abuja. Ajayi was found carrying a sack containing the severed head of a woman he claimed was his girlfriend.
During his confession, Ajayi alleged that a heated argument with Salome led to her picking up a knife. He claimed he fatally stabbed her while trying to disarm her and later dismembered her body to dispose of it.
The family has called for a thorough and transparent investigation, urging the authorities to transfer the case to the police headquarters in Abuja. “We just want justice for Salome,” Patience said. “We deserve to know the truth about what happened to her.”
