FG debunks Dadin Kowa Dam collapse rumors


The Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation Joseph Terlumun Utsev has dismissed report that the Dadin Kowa Dam in Gombe State has collapsed or been ravaged by flood.
Accompanied by the Minister of State for Water Resources and Sanitation, Bello Muhammad Goronyo, during an inspection visit to the dam, Utsev assured that the dam’s reservoir is functioning optimally.
Our correspondent reports that the visit was prompted by recent media report suggesting the dam’s imminent collapse due to flooding.
However, the minister reiterated the ministry’s commitment to ensuring the safety and integrity of all water facilities under its purview.
He confirmed that all channels for the hydropower supply at the dam are intact adding that the dam continues to supply water for irrigation and hydropower generation.
The minister also emphasised the government’s plan to enhance irrigation facilities nationwide to ensure food security.
