Govt declares Friday, July 4 public holiday, gives reason

The Ghanaian government has declared Friday, July 4, 2025, a public holiday across the country.
In a statement released on Thursday, June 26, the Ministry of the Interior announced that although Republic Day falls on Tuesday, July 1, President John Dramani Mahama has exercised his authority to shift the observance to Friday, July 4, through an Executive Instrument (E.I).
The ministry explained that the decision is in accordance with Section 2 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act, 2021 (Act 601), which gives the President the power to declare a public holiday when necessary.
The press release, signed by Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, called on all Ghanaians to observe the day as a public holiday and act accordingly.
The declaration means Ghanaians will enjoy an extended weekend break, as the holiday falls on a Friday.
