Govt lunches scholarship scheme for PWDs

The Lagos state Ministry of Tertiary Education, has lunched a special scholarship for People With Disabilities and indigent students in state-owned tertiary institutions.
Tolani Sule, the commissioner for the ministry said this was in alignment with the THEMES Plus Agenda of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, which categorized inclusive development.
The commissioner said, while speaking at a ministerial briefing in Ikeja, “I am proud to unveil the Special Scholarship for Inclusion. This initiative is designed to support people living with disabilities and the multidimensionally poor, empowering them to pursue their educational aspirations and contribute meaningfully to society.
“It is crucial to note that the Special Scholarship for Inclusion extends beyond Lagos State indigenes. It encompasses all residents enrolled in Lagos State-owned tertiary institutions, irrespective of their states of origin. This underscores our commitment to fostering inclusivity and providing equal opportunities for all residents of Lagos.”
The commissioner emphasized that in order to carry out the objective by introducing the Special Scholarship for PWDs, the state government has budgeted provisions in the 2024 budget.
“We are committed to ensuring that every individual, regardless of their abilities or socio-economic background, has access to quality education,” the commissioner added.
Sometimes last year, the Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs request earnestly to the several local government areas and local council development areas in the state to contingent the vision of the state government in creating education, healthcare policies and programmes to favour persons with disabilities.
