Grammatical error: Popular actress blasts JAMB over embarrassing mistake

Popular Nollywood actress Kate Henshaw has taken a swipe at the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) for a grammatical error in one of its social media posts.
The actress, known for her outspokenness, took to X (formerly Twitter) to correct what she described as an embarrassing mistake in JAMB’s official communication. The exam body had issued a statement clarifying the timing for an upcoming examination, writing:
“@PeterObi, Your Excellency, I must assert that our examination is scheduled to commence at 8:00 am, not 6:00 am. While verification and other clearance processes begins at 6:30 am, it is imperative that candidates are afforded adequate time…”
Reacting to the post, Henshaw highlighted the incorrect use of the verb “begins,” insisting that the correct form should be “begin” since the subject is plural.
Quoting JAMB’s statement, she wrote:
“By the way @JAMBHQ, it’s not ‘while verification and other clearance processes BEGINS.’ It is ‘while verification and other clearance processes BEGIN!!’ I had all my education in this country. It was never this bad.”
Her comment quickly gained traction, sparking a wave of online reactions. While some users praised Henshaw for her attention to detail and for holding public institutions accountable, others expressed concern over the decline in the quality of official communication from government agencies.
Read some netizens’ reactions below;
@Emekaelenwoke: “It’s very shameful and unfortunate indeed. Tinubu Agbado Education has destroyed this country completely.”
@orio_meb: “In a country with a solid judiciary. All folks that have failed JAMB use of English would file a class action lawsuit based on this tweet.”
@Colman12Francis: “It is unfortunate that someone working in the educational ministry or agency can’t make a correct sense.”
@destydam2012: “In their rush to counter a cogent argument that Peter Obi their nemesis raised, they didn’t care to check their response or there are grammatical errors. If you talk now, the children of perdition go ask you wetin Peter Obi do for Anambra or remind you say JAMB dey generate IGR.”
@Emmanuelbrainb2: “I been sopos go pay my wife bride price today but as I see your post, I don mount here.”
