Gunmen has kidnapped a medical doctor, Cornelius Onuigbo, who works at the Urology Department, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital, Nnewi, Anambra State.
The incident occurred at the gate of Onuigbo’s residence in Nnewi as he returned home from work.
Witnesses reported that the armed men intercepted the urologist with their vehicle, forced him into it, and drove off.
One of the sources said, “The medical doctor was rounded up by some armed men, suspected to be kidnappers, as he was about to enter the gate of his residence. They had a few conversations with him after which they asked him to enter into their vehicle and drove off.
“No one knows the reason for the development, although the suspected kidnappers have not reached out to the family, but the family is already making an effort to secure his release.”
A staff of the university, who didn’t want his name on print, confirmed the development, saying, “The institution is aware of the incident and we are doing the needful. That is all I can say for now”.
The spokesman for the Anambra State Police Command, Tochukwu Ikenga, also confirmed the incident.
“Yes, the command is aware of the kidnap. We have already mobilised for the rescue of the doctor. The commissioner, CP Obono Itam, has given orders for this, and men of the command are currently at work,” he said.
