How we prevented a major fire disaster at popular Nigerian hospital— Firefighters

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed that a minor fire incident which broke out at the Ifako Ijaiye General Hospital on Iju Road has been successfully contained with no casualties recorded.
According to a statement released by the agency’s Director, Margaret Adeseye, the fire started around 3:20 p.m. on Wednesday, May 15, 2025, in a nursing room located on the second floor of the hospital’s main three-storey building.
Firefighters responded swiftly to the emergency and managed to extinguish the flames before the fire could spread to other parts of the busy medical facility.
Adeseye assured the public that normal hospital operations have since resumed and that medical services to patients remain uninterrupted.
“The fire was confined to the room where it originated, and thanks to prompt response, it was brought under control without any significant damage,” she stated.
An investigation is now underway to determine the exact cause of the incident.
