Activist and social media personality Verydarkman has regained his freedom after spending five days in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), with his legal representative, Deji Adeyanju, confirming the release and offering fresh updates.

Verydarkman was released on Wednesday, following days of public outcry, protests, and online agitation by his supporters, widely known as RATELS. His arrest had stirred controversy across social media platforms, with many questioning the motive and timing.

In a statement shared on Thursday, Adeyanju revealed that the EFCC did not attach any conditions to the activist’s release. He clarified that he personally applied for Verydarkman’s bail and provided an undertaking to present him whenever required by the Commission.

“There was no condition for VDM’s bail,” Adeyanju wrote. “I was the one who applied for his bail and I made an undertaking to produce him anytime he is needed.”

However, he noted that the EFCC still holds on to Verydarkman’s mobile phone and vehicle.

Despite the circumstances surrounding the detention, Adeyanju expressed continued admiration for the EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede. “Despite everything that has happened, I still like the EFCC Chairman,” he stated.

He also used the opportunity to commend the RATELS movement for their relentless support during the period of detention. “You guys are not just a movement; you are one of the most potent agitators against oppression and tyranny in Nigeria today,” he wrote in a separate appreciation post.

In a veiled jab at critics who had dismissed the activist’s arrest as a diversion, Adeyanju added: “Now to those who said VDM’s arrest was a distraction, they can go ahead and rescue Nigeria from Tinubu’s government. There’s no more distraction.”

The statement marks the first detailed update from Verydarkman’s camp since his release, as supporters continue to demand the return of his seized property.
