Makinde speaks as many killed in Ibadan stampede

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic stampede that occurred at Islamic High School, Basorun, Ibadan, during a family event earlier today.
The unfortunate incident, which claimed multiple lives and left several injured, has plunged the state into mourning.
In a statement issued shortly after the incident, Governor Makinde described the tragedy as a “very sad day” for Oyo State. He extended heartfelt condolences to the grieving families, acknowledging the profound pain of having their joy turned into sorrow.
“We sympathize with the parents whose joy has suddenly been turned to mourning due to these deaths,” the Governor said.
In response to the tragedy, the state government has taken swift action to prevent further loss of life. Security agents were deployed to restore order at the venue, while medical personnel and ambulances were sent to provide assistance. The event was immediately halted, and attendees were escorted out to ensure their safety.
Governor Makinde confirmed that the primary organizers of the event have been taken into custody as investigations into the incident commence. He reassured the public that those found culpable, whether directly or indirectly involved, will be held accountable.
“Our hearts remain with the families and loved ones impacted by this tragedy. May the souls of the departed rest in peace,” he added, urging residents to remain calm as security agencies work to uncover the cause of the disaster.
