Mufwang commends FG for siting 3000-capacity maximum security custodial centre in Plateau

The Plateau state Governor, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has commended the Federal Government for siting a 3000-capacity Maximum Security Custodial Centre in Jos, Plateau state.
The governor during his visit to the Controller General of Corrections, Haliru Nababa in Abuja on Wednesday lauded the initiative.
According to him, “The Nigerian Correctional Service is an important institution with the primary objective to reform, rehabilitate and reintegrate offender.
While stating that the Service is not properly funded to carry out its core mandates, he further revealed that the state of infrastructure in Jos Custodial Centre makes it difficult for meaningful reformation of offenders; therefore, siting the modern custodial facility in the state as a step in the right direction.
He however, requested that the Controller General of Corrections to consider Plateau state indigenes in future recruitments as well as appointments in the management of the Service.
He also sought permission of the CGC to allow the state send a delegation to the prototype facility in Janguza, Kano state, to understudy the facility in order to allow the state government to provide ancillary services which may be needed for the smooth functioning of the facility when completed.
While reacting, the Controller General of Corrections, Haliru Nababa appreciated the governor for the visit.
He went further to reel out some of the intervention that the Service is carrying out in Plateau state command.
He called on the governor to support the Service especially as it pertains to issues bothering on the land where the facility is sited.
He also requested the governor to support the Service in fostering skills and vocational training as well as formal education in Custodial centres in Plateau state.
