Music legend Onyeka Onwenu laid to rest in Lagos

The Nigerian music industry bid final farewell to the iconic Onyeka Onwenu, fondly known as the “Elegant Stallion,” as she was laid to rest in Lagos on Friday.
The 72-year-old music legend passed away on July 30, 2024, at Reddington Hospital, Ikeja, after collapsing at an event.
A funeral service was held at the Fountain of Life Church, Ilupeju, Lagos, attended by notable figures, including former presidential candidate Peter Obi and Abia State Governor Alex Otti. The service was followed by a private burial at a vault in Ikoyi.
Onyeka Onwenu was a multifaceted talent, excelling as a musician, broadcaster, actress, politician, and activist. Her legacy includes numerous hit songs and a lasting impact on the Nigerian entertainment industry. She is survived by her two sons, who will continue to cherish her memory and celebrate her contributions to the arts.
The outpouring of tributes and condolences from fans and fellow artistes shows Onyeka Onwenu’s enduring influence and beloved status in Nigerian music. Her passing leaves a void, but her music and legacy will continue to inspire and uplift generations to come.
