Nigerian actor recalls paying Asake with Rice, Coca-Cola for movie roles


Popular Nigerian actor and content creator Yemi Elesho has reflected on his long-standing relationship with Afrobeats star Asake, revealing how the singer featured in his skits and movies during their university days.
In a recent interview with streamer Jigan, Elesho disclosed that he and Asake shared a strong bond as undergraduates at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife. He recalled how the singer, now a Grammy-winning artist, once accepted a plate of rice and a bottle of Coca-Cola as payment for his appearances in campus productions.
“I used to give Asake a ₦700 plate of rice and a bottle of Coca-Cola as performance fees for him to feature in my movies during our undergraduate days at OAU,” Elesho stated.
He further emphasized their close friendship, sharing that they participated in celebrity football matches together and have numerous pictures and videos from their time at the university.
The revelation has since sparked reactions online, with many praising Asake’s journey from humble beginnings to global stardom.
