Nigerian youngsters join FC Zurich


Nigerian promising youngsters Ume Samuel and Tobias Okafor have joined Switzerland’s top side FC Zurich.
Ume, 19 and a forward, arrived at the club from Botev Plovdiv of Bulgaria on a five-year contract until 2029, with undisclosed terms of contract.
He previously played in Russia for FDC Vista Gelendzhik before moving to Botev Plovdiv in 2022, scoring eleven goals and three assists in 47 competitive appearances. He won the Bulgarian Cup with them in the 2023/2024 season, scoring the decisive goal in the final in a 3-2 win against Ludogorets Razgrad.
He has been capped five times at the U20 level for Nigeria and was a key member of the Flying Eagles team that took part in the U20 World Cup in Argentina in 2023
Tobias, 17, who plays on the wing, joined from FC Aarau and will be part of the U21 squad.
He joined FC Aarau’s junior team at the age of seven and progressed through all the youth levels.
The Swiss-Nigerian dual citizen is currently an U18 national player and has already made four international appearances at this level. He is the cousin of Noah and Isaiah Okafor.
